Beginning the adoption journey

This weekend was a very exciting one for Josh and I. We have always known that one day we would want to adopt. God has put a deep desire to adopt in our hearts. Most importantly because we know that "we are sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:26). As a result of God’s adopting us we are just as eternal and secure in our relationship with Him as His only-begotten Son. All the security and loveliness of God’s Son is ours as His adopted sons. Wow, what an awesome and amazing thought! When we accepted Christ into our hearts WE ourselves were adopted!
First, we decided that we'd like to try and have one biologically and God gave us our precious daughter Amaya. We love her so very much and are so thankful for her. Since about January, Josh and I have been seriously praying about what direction he was going to lead us in next. After much discussion between each other, getting advice from others, and lots and lots of prayer we decided to go ahead with the adoption process.
The question of where to adopt from wasn't too difficult of a decision for us. Once we decided we wanted to adopt internationally we knew we wanted to adopt from Africa. Josh and I served in Africa on a missions trip several years ago and simply FELL IN LOVE with the continent. The people of Africa were such a beautiful people. The agency we are going through, www.awaa.org, just opened up adoption through Rwanda and we felt such a peace about adopting from Rwanda as we read about the country. Josh and I sat down on Saturday night, prayed about the adoption, and fill out our application. Many of you may know this process is a LONG one! Not only is there lots and lots of paperwork, and you have to wait for a child to be referred to you, but the laws are constantly changing so you never know what to expect. We are praying that God will give us patience as we begin this journey. We know that he is completely and totally in control and very excited as we begin this process with much anticipation!
